Befriend a different version of Disney’s villains

Disney Twisted-Wonderland is a free adventure mobile video game wherein you can hang out with characters inspired by Disney’s most iconic villains. Developed by Aniplex Inc., this cute and vibrant 2D game is a collaboration project between Aniplex—a popular Japanese anime and music production company—and Walt Disney Japan.

Featuring the concept, story, and character designs of Yana Toboso—creator of the iconic manga series, Black Butler—Disney Twisted-Wonderland is a lovely tribute to the classic Disney animated movie villains. Fans of those films and the anime style will find this title a refreshing twist to the usual Disney-inspired games.

Is Twisted Wonderland a dating sim?

The main story of Disney Twisted-Wonderland features a hapless youth who ends up getting summoned into a world of magic and familiar-looking characters. They have been selected as a new magic student for the prestigious Night Raven College—but all they really want is to go back to their previously-normal life. Unfortunately, they’ll have to stay at one of the school dorms while trying to find a way back home.

The main appeal is that its main characters are based on Disney’s classic villains from its animated films, like The Lion King, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Aladdin. It features a gacha system for collecting the various handsomely-designed characters and using them in the gameplay, which consists of both RPG turn-based battles and cool rhythm minigames. The art’s gorgeous live 2D graphics and cute chibi sprites add to the charm too.

Aside from these, the game offers various story segments, letting you learn more about these interesting characters. It’s also fully voiced in Japanese, with English subtitles. However, unlike its similarity in style to games like Immortal Heart and Ensemble Stars Music, it’s not a dating sim game and doesn’t have any romance elements—with the protagonist’s gender even being ambiguous. Honestly, its most pressing issue is the loading screens freezing.

See what lies beyond the villainy

All in all, Disney Twisted-Wonderland is a great gacha mobile game to try out if you’re a fan of Disney and anime and are interested in what Black Butler’s author managed to cook up with Disney’s villains. It struggles to run at times for certain devices but it still has enough content and unique charm to make it stand out among other games with similar-looking styles.
